The main purpose of the Silver League is first and foremost to allow newer teams and/or players to get their foot in the competitive scene by pitting them against other teams and/or players who are also new to the scene. The Silver League is designed for players who are interested in taking competitive Call of Duty seriously, but may either not have the money to compete, or do not yet have the skills or fundamentals necessary to contend with the best teams. Thus, the Silver League will still run the same as our Gold League, emulating a professional experience and environment. Some key factors of the Silver League that may interest teams include: negotiating the match dates and times with other teams, playing teams with similar skill levels, and of course, the free entry into the league.
Another main reason why the Silver League was created was to experiment with different rules, scheduling, awards, and events such as an in-season tournament, an NFL style of playoffs, etc. The Silver League and its teams will take steps towards trying out different things that may eventually make it into the Gold League. While the Silver League is the little brother, its players should take pride in knowing that their participation will go a long way in shaping the future of the Gold League.
Aside from providing a place for newer teams to play in, the Silver League will also be open to new casters who would like their first shot at casting matches. In the past, plenty of people who wanted to cast for our league became too nervous and backed out due to the stakes or the amount of people watching. In this league, newcomers are encouraged and welcomed. This league should be perfect for players who either aren’t quite ready to or can’t pay for tournaments/leagues; teams looking to face and improve against similar opponents; first-time casters; and pubs players looking to transition to the competitive scene. Everyone needs to start somewhere. We’re hoping that the Silver League can be that place for you.
With everything being said, it should be understood that with less competition comes less rewards. There will either be a very small cash prize, or none at all, in an effort to keep better teams from joining simply to take “easy cash.” There should be no reason that experienced and overall better teams would want to join the Silver League. There is a Gold League with money on the line for a reason. While we know that it is virtually impossible to filter teams with similar skill levels, teams can do us, and themselves, a favor, by realistically self-evaluating their team. If you feel as if you’re ready to start competing against some of the best competition, join our Gold League or other leagues/events. If you’re just starting out, join the Silver League. We will try our best to ensure that every team in the league is relatively in the same tier. Some teams may dominate, while some teams may really struggle, but every team should be around the same in terms of competitive experience and gameplay. Do not be mistaken, we do not want this league to be filled with bots. Please be as prepared as possible for the competitive grind.
Additionally, we know that people may think of the Silver League as a bad idea or ridiculous concept. However, I know from experience that playing against teams who are simply better in every way than you is both demoralizing, and a waste of time, as teams will stop trying early on and use tactics that will never work against better teams, such as running with only pistols or knives. That’s not a way to learn, just as the Silver League is not the only way to get better. We encourage every team to play in top leagues, tournaments, or even websites such as GameBattles. The Silver League simply provides a way for teams to use new strategies that they’ve learned from playing better competition against similarly-skilled opponents. It should not be the only thing a team is playing in if they are truly serious and want to get better in Call of Duty.
